When I think about my life, I’m almost one hundred percent fairly certain that in the future I want to be involved in something TV/radio/film-wise. But the production side. I know my current degree doesn’t exactly lead straight into that sort of career, and I lack drastically any creative skills. But sometimes when I am feeling pretty creative I feel sure that I can achieve something in this domain.
Then I go to the cinema and watch Another Year and realise that nothing I will ever do, make, produce or think up will be as good as this. Pure, raw talent from the cast and in production. Mike Leigh is a rare pearl amongst the sea-weed of other producer/writer/directors in the beautifully vast ocean of film.
This is a must-see this winter, therefore you must see it.

Whoever is in charge of publicity on the Parisian metro is a fool for putting these two film posters next to each other.
If it’s a toss up between Le Secret de Charlie or Le Secret de Chanda I’m afraid beautiful, gorgeous Zac Efron’s secret wins every time. Sure, there is a place in modern cinema for stories about Africa and AIDS and all that, but that place is not next to a flawless image of Zac Efron.
Sorry Chanda.

Inception was like one of those stories you wrote as a kid where you ended it with, “and they all woke up and realised it was just a dream…”

Withnail and I: the biggest let down of the week.
I watched this for the first time last night and just didn’t think it was anything special. The only saving grace was Richard Griffiths’ character, the bumbling and twee homosexual who oozes intelligence from every pore of his over-sized frame; a character he plays so often and so well.
I’ve come to the conclusion that anything that is described - or, even worse, describes itself - as a ‘cult classic’ normally ends up being a little bit shit.

Calling all French film buffs - what’s this film?

I’m currently watching a film on the German channel I’m lucky enough to get on my television. It’s a French film dubbed into German, as is the standard across Europe.

I’ve seen the film before and I have blogged about it on this very site, but I can’t remember what it’s called. That’s where I need your help.

It’s about a man who’s a bit of a gangster, but he’s really into his music. He is learning piano with a Japanese teacher who doesn’t speak French (or in this case German) so he gets frustrated with her. His father is big in the music world and I think he does a few concerts or the main man does the concerts, I can’t remember. In the end I think the father dies.

I hope this is enough information for someone, anyone, to tell me the title of the film.

I know it’s a long shot, but thanks in advance.
